Robin O'Neill, senior director, engineering at Western Digital Labs and James Stanger, senior director, product management, CompTIA will discuss what IT professionals need to know about the Internet of Things and how it will impact their careers.

Estimates put the number of 'things' connected to the Internet at 50.1 billion by 2020, creating $1.9 trillion in global economic value-add, according to an October 2014 CompTIA whitepaper, Sizing Up the Internet of Things. This translates to approximately 6.3 connected things per person if distributed evenly across the planet.

"The ecosystem of the Internet of Things is complicated, spanning hardware, software, rules and services," Stanger said. "While many of these elements have roots in traditional IT components, there are many new aspects to consider. Each of these elements has implications on how IT pros do their jobs today and into the future."

Speakers will discuss the concepts that IT professionals need to understand today to be better prepared for the forecasted future of the Internet of Things. Operating systems, storage concepts, networking technologies, support architectures, big innovations (and innovators) and security implications are among the topics that will be discussed.
